The Vermilion Sail Education Foundation ...
Is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial support for sailing education and competitive junior sailing, especially in our local area.
Was founded as a legal entity in 2000 and was inspired by a 50 year tradition of sailing education and competition in Vermilion, OH.
Is a 501c3 organization, eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable and educational contributions under Internal Revenue Code.
Trustees of the Foundation:
Heidi Backus Riddle, Pam Moes Gregory, Dave Varga (Treasurer), Donald Parsons, Shea Loper, Michael Petrigan, Christopher Mallett, and David Blackman
All the trustees are passionate about sailing with many years of experience in junior and adult sailing as instructors, participants, and volunteers. Heidi Backus Riddle was the 1985 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year. We have all chosen to volunteer and support sailing because we believe that support of junior sailing education is the future of our sport and that grass roots local programs are the most effective means to accomplish this.
The Vermilion Sail Education Foundation is independent from, but actively supports, the Vermilion Sail Camp. The funds raised through the foundation have enabled significant support to the infrastructure of the camp, including boats, maintenance and storage. It is the goal of the foundation to ensure that this program is financially healthy and has the ability to maintain and grow in the nurturing of junior sailors. Local sailors participating in this program can begin with basic water safety and small boat handling, and then learn the basics of competition. More advanced junior sailors can participate in the Inter-Lake Yachting Association traveling junior regatta events.
VSEF also recently donated funds to build a new storage facility(pictured below) which houses equipment for the junior sailing program.
